Temporary Residents with Visitor Visa (TRV)

Canada welcomes more than 35 million visitors each year. Except for Canadian citizens and permanent residents, all other individuals require permission to enter Canada as a visitor. Unless they are citizens of a visa-exempt country, individuals who wish to enter Canada for a temporary purpose, such as tourists, temporary foreign workers (individuals with work permits) and international students (individuals on study permits) must apply for and be granted a TRV.

Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

Citizens of certain countries are exempt from the requirement to obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). For these individuals, the government of Canada has introduced what is known as electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

The new eTA system aims to provide stress-free travel for visa-exempt individuals by requiring them to complete an online form before departure.  On November 10, 2016, the eTA has become mandatory for most  visitors from countries whose citizens do not require a TRV who are entering Canada by air.

Temporary Visitor Visas are handled by Canadian consulates outside Canada. Temporary residence visas may be single entry or multiple entries.  In general, visitors are granted a maximum of six months, depending on the nature of the visitor. Visitors who wish to stay in Canada for more than six months may apply for a visa extension. Temporary foreign workers and international students will be issued in accordance with the actual situation of the different periods of permission.

It should be noted that, even if, a valid temporary visa does not necessarily mean that the Canadian Customs entry will be allowed, because at the Immigration Department, all visitors must demonstrate the purpose of visiting Canada and personal financial capability. In addition, visitors with criminal background and serious infectious diseases will be prevented from entering Canada.

Super Visa

In December 2011, the Canadian government issued new parent and grandparents super visas. The visa will allow Canadian citizens and permanent residents' parents and grandparents to visit Canada for a period of up to 2 years without leaving Canada, the visa validation up to 10 years validation period and allowing multiple entries.

Canadian parents and grandparents of citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply for the visa.

Conditions for applying for a Super Visa:

  • Canadian sponsor (child) as guarantor
  • Canadian sponsors (children) need to meet minimum income requirements
  • A valid medical insurance certificate must be purchased in Canada for a period of at least one year with an insured amount of $ 100,000 or more
